MAAT is a brand-new cultural project in Lisbon that focuses on three areas: art, architecture, and technology. The museum is located on the Tage (Rio Tejo), west of the city center. It draws a connection between the new building and the Tejo power plant, one of the most significant examples of industrial architecture in Portugal from the 20th century and one of the most visited museums in the country.
Encouraging an open-ended and transformative relationship between cultural institutions and societal change, the museum interrogates and celebrates the intellectual ambitions and the creative means through which we imagine, inhabit, and create the world we live in. That is, how we constantly redesign our collective undertakings regarding the planetary ecosystem we belong to.
